Philosophy of Education
It is my strong belief that students are most successful when they are well-rounded, global citizens. Therefore, I strive to inspire students to reach for greatness in every aspect of their lives. I believe that fostering a sense of community outside the classroom through extra curricular activities has the benefit of creating a positive atmosphere inside the classroom. I am able to do this by getting to know each of my students individually both inside and outside of the classroom. With this more personal connection, I am able to differentiate my instruction accordingly.
My teaching philosophy focuses on individual student success through an innovative, student driven and inclusive learning environment. Each student has their own unique story and specific strengths and weaknesses. Students will be encouraged and celebrated through self-motivation, creativity and perseverance giving them life skills to succeed in our ever-changing world.
As a teacher, I encourage a learner focused, inquiry driven classroom. In my experience, giving students choice and freedom creates a positive relationship, a decrease in behavioural issues, and a love of learning. Inspiring creativity and flexibility in my lessons, assignments, and assessments, I am able to push each one of my students to be their best, in their own way.

A Statement of Beliefs
Commitment to Students and Student Learning
A passion and commitment to each individual student is the most important message that a teacher can send to their class. Every student learns differently and whether formally written or not, every student needs someone to look out for an individual plan that best suits their learning. Open communication and a mutual respect go a long way for students.
Students need to know that their needs are cared about and that they are valued no matter what their grade, learning style, life, etc.
Ongoing Professional Learning
The best teacher is a good learner. My favourite thing about this career is that you learn something new everyday, I am constantly being taught by my students, my colleges, and the world around me.
An important part of teaching is being open to every opportunity that will make you a better teacher. From professional development to student driven inquiry focuses to personal experiences, every opportunity can be a learning opportunity
Creating a classroom environment that facilitates care, trust, respect and integrity
Professional Knowledge
I hope to constantly reflect on student development, explore different learning theories and pedagogy, stay up to date and consistent with curriculum and ethics, and continue my own educational research as well as read others
I will consider opinions different from my own and try to keep an open mind to best expand my knowledge.
Professional Practice
I will apply my professional knowledge and experience to promote student learning
I will use appropriate pedagogy, assessment and evaluation
I will continue to try to bring technology into my classroom in new and innovative ways.
